On Tuesday, I should get clearance to start working out and I’m very excited about it. Honestly, I cannot tell you how ready I am to really start working out again. I’ve purchased new gym bag, started making my exercise schedule, even have two personal training sessions lined up as well as pilates reformer classes on my schedule. If you’re about to embark on a new fitness regime, you too will probably want to begin preparation by buying suitable equipment and clothes like Ryderwear apparel to workout in comfort and style.
Along with my preparation, I’ve also invested in a very nice Omron Pedometer. I’ve tried to use pedometers before and either I was a total moron or simply didn’t have a clue how to use it. Well, this time, I figured out how to use it and it was quite eye opening.
There’s always that number, 10K for 10K steps a day. I figured I was doing at least that, no problem, I mean I’m a busy mom, I’m constantly moving, taking care of something, so 10K, that’s in the bag.
Not so much. I wore my pedometer today and went about my usual activities. What I found is that I sit, A LOT. As of 4pm this afternoon, I’ve only accumulated 1/3 of the steps I should have totalled. What an eye opener and how disappointing for me. At this rate I’d be better off just getting a tummy tuck in Newport Beach, CA, because it looks like a lot more effort is going to be required than I first thought!
I’ve been so behind with all my writing projects that I am getting a Twitter Butt and Facebook Flab, but what’s my excuse for before now? Yes, I was sick, but I could have moved even a little bit more. Even before then, I took it all for granted that I could lose the weight at anytime, but I didn’t. Now I find I’ve got a huge battle to fight and even though I find the task daunting, it’s not impossible.
The woman who founded Mamavation lost 170 lbs. That’s an entire person! I’m sure when she started there were days she said “What am I doing? I can’t do this. It’s too hard.” Yet, I’m sure she wanted to lose the weight more than she was ready to settle for the weight she’d allowed herself to become–a very frustrated mom and woman.
There was a man on Oprah years ago who lost 500 pounds. Yep, 1/4 of a ton. That’s almost three people! I’m sure he wondered what he was doing most days when he hurt and was only eating 20% of what he usually did. (He said he was consuming 10,000 calories a day and he reduced it to 2000).
I have no doubt Jennifer Hudson, when she first started with Weight Watchers, thought how in the world am I going to lose all this weight? I’m sure there were days she really hated salad and green beans and had no desire to workout.
The point is this, I know anyone who started on a weight loss and improving their health plan started where I am now. Just like Harry Potter says in Order of the Phoenix, “Every great witch or wizard started where we are right now. Nothing more than students. If they can do it, why can’t we?” It holds true for anyone starting on a journey that’s going to require hard work, persistance, and perseverance. It starts with a desire to change, then the deciphering of what works, what does, and what’s the best way to reach goals. Then, just stick with it, allow yourself to be flawed, and keep moving forward.
So with all that said, I know what I need to do. First things first, I need to move more. That’s a good place to start.
I know you can do it. I am starting this battle with you as well. I satred out doing great then just STOPED. That was all me, now all me is goint to get things started and con’t to MOVE foward, even if it is just a small step at a time. Lots of Luck to you.
We can do this Marlee! I’m there with you whenever you need. You know where to find me.
