It’s official. On February 3rd, 2014 amazon.com announced that San Antonio, Texas is the most romantic city in the US.
According to the site, the annual sales of romance and relationship books, romantic movies, and love music as well as (cough, cough) adult toys purchased by the people of San Antonio last year rated at the top in the nation.
Why is this important?

Shelly and Author Patricia Walters Fischer review national best seller Wild by Cheryl Strayed.
#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER by Cheryl Strayed
At twenty-two, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother’s death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life. With no experience or training, driven only by blind will, she would hike more than a thousand miles of the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State—and she would do it alone. Told with suspense and style, sparkling with warmth and humor, Wild powerfully captures the terrors and pleasures of one young woman forging ahead against all odds on a journey that maddened, strengthened, and ultimately healed her.

Every dollar raised by Dempsey Challenge participants directly benefits the Dempsey Center — a leader in quality of life care for individuals and families impacted by cancer.
This challenge presented by Amgen is a fundraising experience for the Dempsey Center in Lewiston, Maine.
Comprised of various cycling distances (10, 25, 50, 70 and 100 miles), and a 5K (3.1 mile) and 10K (6.2 mile) run/walk, participants 18 and over are required to raise $150 (and encouraged to raise even more!) as they prepare for the challenge.
A youth fundraising campaign called Positive Tracks is available for young people 23 or under. (Please refer to the Youth section of the FAQs.)
The Dempsey Center provides free quality of life care to anyone impacted by cancer. More information on Patrick’s personal story and commitment, as well as services provided by the Dempsey Center, can be found at dempseycenter.org

Mission & Vision of NOCC
The mission of the NOCC is to save lives by fighting tirelessly to prevent and cure ovarian cancer and to improve the quality of life for Survivors.
More than 22,000 women in the United States are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year, and over 14,000 women die from the disease. Unfortunately, most cases are diagnosed in later stages, when the prognosis is poor. However, if diagnosed and treated early, when the cancer is confined to the ovary, the five-year survival rate is over 90 percent. That is why it is imperative that the early signs and symptoms of the disease are recognized, not only by women, but by their families and the healthcare community.
There is currently no early detection test for ovarian cancer. The Pap test does not detect ovarian cancer. Until there is a screening test, the key to early diagnosis is awareness. The key to awareness is knowing the subtle symptoms of ovarian cancer, and urging women to Take Early Action and Live®.
Through national programs and local NOCC chapter initiatives, the NOCC’s goal is to educate communities and increase awareness about the symptoms of ovarian cancer. The NOCC also provides information to assist newly-diagnosed patients, hope to Survivors, and support to caregivers. The NOCC is also committed to the advancement of ovarian cancer research.
Our programs are possible only with the help of our staff and volunteers — committed men and women in communities nationwide who are dedicated to the mission of the NOCC. We encourage you to join them. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of women, families, and communities touched by ovarian cancer.
The last few years have been an amazing ride for author, Teri Wilson.
She’s had multiple books published through Harlequin and Tule and last year, her book Unleashing Mr. Darcy, was made into a Hallmark Movie.
This Saturday, May 20th, she’ll get to see another one of her books on the screen when The Art of Us, a new take on My Fair Lady, will premiere on the Hallmark Channel (8p CST). Here’s the movie trailer:
Teri will talk to us about her writing, her dogs, and what actually happens on a movie set. Plus, she’ll let us know where to watch for her cameo during the movie.
Teri is the author of UNLEASHING MR. DARCY, now a Hallmark Channel Original Movie. She’s currently working on a new series of books set at a Tiffany-esque jewelry store, as well as a trilogy of royal romances, both slated to debut in 2017.
