2016 4 12 Christina TinkerI’ve had the best time meeting my new friends with the cast from the Listen to Your Mother–San Antonio show (April 23rd, 2016 at the Tobin Performing Arts). Yesterday, you got to read about Moira Duggan.

Today, y’all get to meet Christina Tinker, mom of three, and lover of movies.

Why audition for the show?
I think the idea of truth telling and hope spreading when it comes to motherhood is just so awesome.

Lifting up women in a way that both honors and de-fantasizes what mothering is about is something I believe in!

Why did you pick the piece you did for the show?
Because it is true and honest and something that has been a huge part of my personal journey in the last year.

Best/Worst/Unexpected advice given to you about motherhood. About being an adult in general.
The idea that you are somehow “in control” of any part of the parenting experience. I mean, yes, you get to be the boss of an army of tiny people in theory, but really, we all know that the control is gone as soon as you take that little bundle home from the hospital!

Goals for motherhood before you had children.
Perfection on all fronts.image2

After.
Teach kindness, grace and generosity daily by my actions more than words.

Celebrity Crush.
Mm mm not sure.

Favorite Author. Brene Brown.
Favorite Book. Belong to Me by Marisa de los Santos.
Movie. Too many to name but my go to is Steel Magnolias. I know every line!!
Song. Amazing Grace and Brave.

Book/Movie you can’t wait to read/watch with your children and why. All things Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstein because in their funny, simple words are so many lessons in kindness, compassion, bravery and joy.

Favorite mom moment so far.
Every one of my children still wants me to sing them a song and/or scratch their back just before falling asleep. That simple, short moment sitting on the floor by each child’s bed is such a moment of silent grace and deep appreciation that refills me even on the weariest of days.

FullSizeRenderWhat do you hope people will take away from the show after hearing all of our stories?
Grace, joy, goodness, sadness, hope, fear… These are all part of motherhood (and fatherhood for that matter), but the greatest is by far the love that is created between mothers and children. That love, when shared from generation to generation is the balm we need to heal the hurts of this world.

Don’t miss this amazing show, Listen to Your Mother at The Tobin Center on April 23rd.

Tomorrow, come back and read about the Practical Hippie, Meghann Dibrell.2016 4 11 Listen to your Mother Poster
